• Sundarar (Tamil Cundarar), also known affectionately as Tampiran Thozhan (Comrade of the Master, meaning friend of Shiva) was an eighth-century poet who was one of the most prominent Nayanars, the Shaiva bhakti (devotional) poets of Tamil Nadu. He was a contemporary of Cheraman Perumal and Kotpuli Nayanar who also figure in the 63 Nayanmars. The songs of praise are called Thiruthondathogai and is the original nucleus around which the Periyapuranam is based. The Periya Puranam, which collects the legends of the Nayanars, starts and ends with him. The hymns of seventh volume of the Tirumurai, the twelve-volume compendium of the poetry of Tamil Shaiva Siddhanta, were composed by him.

• Sindhu Naga Kanni is one among the seven deties called Saptha Kanniar (Seven Virgins).
• They are the seven virgin mothers who protect the family, the village and town. They are the Kula Theivams or Gods of Family, angels of the main Goddess Shakti /Parvati.
• These idols are found in all village and town Hindu temples, usually in the back yard of the main deity.
• They are also found as the main deities in some rural temples. In some places they are formless as just plain seven stones.
• They protect families and villages from diseases, floods, drought and other calamities. They bring prosperity to people. They are woshipped by people of Tamil nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in India.
• It is believed that those who are unable to offer prayers to their Kula Theivam (Family God) can offer prayers to the Saptha Kanniar instead.

The statue depicts as the dancing lord as follows – upper right hand holding damaru, middle right in abhaya mudra, lower right holding the gadha. The upper left hand holding the trishool, middle holding the kapala (skull) and the lower left in gajahasta mudra.
Every detail on the statue from top to toe – the circular headrest, the crescent moon, the crown, his jewels, and the grand attire have been carved meticulously. The magnificent statue is supported by a huge inverted lotus pedestal.
