A dazzling brass idol of Amman or Mariamman, a goddess of rain, predominant in rural areas of South India. She is the main Tamil mother goddess who has been associated with Hindu goddesses Parvathi, Kali, Durga, Rukmini, Sita and Draupadi. She is considered as the guardian deity by many South Indian village dwellers.
The idol portrays the goddess seated in lalithasana with the left leg tucked in and the right leg held down on a high pedestal, with the five headed snake hooding over her. In her four hands, she is seen holding the knife, skull cap, damaru coiled by a snake and a noose.
