Saraswathi is usually depicted in a seated posture.

The goddess in a standing posture, is seen holding a pustaka (book/script) in the upper left hand, yazh (muscial instrument) in upper right hand, veena in the lower right hand and a mala (garland) in the lower left hand.
On the either side of the goddess are two hamsas (swan), her sacred bird, neatly carved.
